Spruce is designed to work with SmartThings Hub, which connects your irrigation controller to the Internet and weather predictions as well as collecting data from the soil sensors. It also allows you to check up on your garden while you are away on vacation through the SmartThings app.

Using and installing the hub is simple thanks to the intuitive SmartThings app. Simply plug the hub into a wall outlet and connect the included Ethernet cable to your router. The app will recognize your hub and other connected compatible devices such as the Spruce controller and soil sensors. The hub also comes with four AA batteries, which offer 10 hours of backup power if the hub comes unplugged or if there is a power outage.
